WWII Cossacks for the game we are putting on at Battleground, 30th November 2019 I will using these for both German and Russians armies.
During World War II, many Cossacks, ethnic Russians and Ukrainians, initially served in the Red Army. However, disillusioned by Stalin’s brutal repression, including forced cultural assimilation and the Soviet famine of 1932-33, many defected to the German Army during Operation Barbarossa in 1941. These Cossacks formed units like the 1st SS Cossack Cavalry Division, fighting against the Soviet Union. After the war, those who surrendered to Western Allies were repatriated to the Soviet Union, often facing harsh treatment or death in the Gulag.
